West Wimbledon Primary School

Equalities Information and Objectives

West Wimbledon Primary School is committed to promoting equality and diversity, and to providing an inclusive and supportive environment in which all individuals have the opportunity to contribute to their full potential.

This is central to our commitment to achieving excellence in all that we do.

As a school, West Wimbledon Primary School recognises that it has two specific, but linked, duties. One is as an educator of children. The second is as an employer. In relation to both areas of our work, we are committed to providing an environment in which current and prospective pupils and employees are selected and treated solely on the basis of their merits, abilities and potential, regardless of gender, age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity status, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, trade union membership or non-membership, socio-economic background, or, in the case of employees, on the basis of being a part-time or fixed term worker.

We welcome developing and publishing our obligations under the Equality Act 2010, which created the ‘Public Sector Equality Duty’, by having due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate discrimination and other conduct that is prohibited by the Equality Act 2010;
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it;
  • Foster good relations across all characteristics – between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.

We believe that all pupils and members of staff should have the opportunity to fulfil their potential, irrespective of their background, identity and circumstances. We are committed to creating a community that recognises and celebrates difference, and does so within a culture of respect and co-operation. We appreciate that an ethos that promotes equality will also create a positive environment and a shared sense of belonging for all who work, learn and use the services in our school. We recognise that equality will only be achieved by the whole school community working together –  our pupils, staff, governors and parents/carers.
